Silicon Optics is a Side Mission in The Ascent. Side Missions are obtained by speaking to NPCs and accepting their request, these side missions are secondary quests or tasks that do not have any bearing to the main story of the game, but instead, provides various information to the overall lore, as well as providing the player with different rewards upon completing a side mission.
Some people just never wanna get off the couch. They wanna see the world, sure, but from the privacy and convenience of their own homes. Once an impossibility, but now, what with recent advances in ultra high def VR tech, it's actually fairly easy to do: assuming you've got someone to actually go out ther and plant the VR cams in the first place (which is where I come in).
Harlan's always been a bit of a shut-in has the explorer's mindset, the adventurare's spirit, and the video game player's will to leave the house (or not), so it's all on me to travel throughout the city and plant some cameras for him. And who knows, if he sees enough of the world and gets inspired, maybe he'll finally wanna leave the house for a change.

Silicon Optics Walkthrough
- For this side mission, speak to Harlan who's at Cluster 13.
- Accept the job to acquire this side mission where you need to install VR cameras at specified locations.
- Simply follow the waymarker by pinging it to keep track of the location. You need to travel to the Gratitude, the Grinder located within The Warrens, followed by The Umbilical and the Scrapland which are located within Highstreet.
- Scrapland can be found via The Node but this area becomes available late in the game. At some point, the lift becomes available to be used so that you can arrive at Scrapland.
- After installing the camera in Scrapland, head to The Pinnacle. You need to complete the Main Mission Syntax Error first so you can gain access to The Pinnacle.
- Install the last camera by the overlooking area of the park and call Harlan. After calling him, return to Cluster 13, speak to Harlan and you'll complete this mission. As a reward, you'll acquire 55,000 XP and 22,000 UCREDs.
